The first poem that I have chosen for the context is The Unknown Citizen by W. H Auden. I have chosen this poem because this poem starts with an ironic epigraph – “To JS/07 M 378 This Marble Monument Is Erected by the State”. It should be mentioned here that the poem is considered to be one of the most reputed poems of Auden. Another reason to select the poem is because the tone of the poem is both disturbing as well as satirical. The poem introduces the audiences with the Bureau of Statistics as well as other reports, which show that the unknown citizen used to work in a factory and he paid all the union dues. He has been considered to be normal according to the social psychology investigators.
